New Year’s Eve in China

New Year’s Eve in China

While the Chinese do celebrate their own Lunar New Year (falling on 16th February in 2018), December 31st still sees some special celebrations, much like the rest of the world. You can also expect smaller crowds as compared to the Lunar New Year celebrations and festivities. If you’re considering spending New Year’s Eve in China, check out how the various cities in China usher in the brand new year.

Shanghai & Beijing

In metropolises like Shanghai and Beijing, there is no shortage of bars and parties that you can find yourself in on New Year’s Eve. These cities play host to a huge selection of rooftop bars atop skyscrappers, giving you spectacular views of the cityscape, while you dance and party the night away with your friends. Expect to rub shoulders with expats from all over the world at various themed-parties that also feature international artists and DJs. If you prefer to ring in the new year in class, there are also great dinner party options available all across the city. Enjoy a night out with close friends and reflect upon the past year over wine and dinner before you countdown to 2018. Worried about how to get back to your accommodation? The public transport like the city’s Metro will be opened until late for party-goers.

Shen Zhen

For all music lovers, Shen Zhen is your destination this NYE. With not just one, but two concerts. EDM (Electronic Dance Music) fans will be treated to Berlin’s Mijk Van Dijk and Japan’s Galcid join Chinese musical masters like Mansun Lui, Lanx, and MHP at the Future Mix concert. While the concert does end at 10pm, head on over to the after party for an unforgettable countdown experience. Indie music fans can also look forward to the New Year Midi Festival, taking place over 2 days.

If loud music and booze isn’t your thing, you can choose to spend your new year’s eve at any of the restaurants throwing dinner parties and holding their own private fireworks display. While fireworks are increasingly being banned across the country, you can still catch live fireworks in Shen Zhen.
